Our Third Fall Scholar-in-Residence Program!
A Very Special Shabbaton THIS Friday and Saturday with Reb Simcha Raphael.
Kabbalat Shabbat musical service (7:30 pm) with Reb Sherril and Fran Avni, with special guest d’var Torah by Reb Simcha.
Topic: “Yenne Velt: Lifting the Veil on the Afterlife and the World Beyond.”
Our famous potluck vegetarian oneg Shabbat follows the service. Please bring a little nosh or beverage to share.
Then on Saturday night, join us for a potluck vegetarian supper at 6 pm, followed by havdalah and an evening of storytelling (Jewish ghost stories!) and teaching with Reb Simcha. Please bring a nutritious nosh – main dish, side dish, dessert, or beverage to share, as you are able.
Topic: “Twilight Between the Worlds: Tales of Ghosts, Spirits, and Reincarnating Souls.”
Reb Simcha Raphael, PhD. studied Religion and Jewish Studies at Concordia University and received a doctorate from the California Institute of Integral Studies. Founding Director of the DA’AT Institute for Death Awareness, Advocacy and Training, he teaches Jewish mysticism at Temple University in Philadelphia. Ordained by Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi, ztz”l, he is author of Jewish Views of the Afterlife.
Please be generous with your donations for this event. We did not receive the funding we requested from the Jewish community, so all donations will go toward paying for our rent at the Y, security services, and an honorarium for Reb Simcha.
That’s all for now!
