Fran Avni: Musician-in-Residence

Fran Avni, is one of the most respected names in the field of Jewish music. As singer/songwriter, recording artist and educator, Fran has been creating original music for over three decades. She has performed, recorded with and produced numerous luminaries in Jewish music across the spectrum including Rabbi Hanna Tiferet Siegel, and Cantor Linda Hirschhorn. Dividing her time between Berkeley and Montreal for the past fifteen years, she also served as High holiday Service Coordinator/Music Director of Berkeley’s Aquarian Minyan – (Jewish Renewal’s very first community founded by Reb Zalman Schachter Shalomi) working with R. Diane Eliott, Kehilla’s R.David Cooper, Chochmat HaLev’s R.SaraLeya Shley, and additional bay area cantors and songleaders.

Fran has taught and led choruses at numerous Aleph Kallot, at LIMMUD in England, the National Jewish Choral Festival, the Havurah Institute and major Jewish educational conferences. Many of her compositions are sung in schools and synagogues across North America.

Her gift is creating community through harmony – and serving as a “spiritual gesher”. Fran is currently Musician-in-residence at Montreal’s newly-founded B’nai Or congregation.
